Also, try doing some searches on the web or your phone book. Look for appraisers or dealers of antiques. Many of them can track down info on stuff like that. DW
ims I am in possesion of an old lock and am trying to find its origins. The lock is large (4 1/2" x 10" x 2"). It is portable, although it weighs 10 lbs. and made of iron with decorative brass straps. Two long iron flat keys are required to open it. Keys are not used to close it. It appears to have been used on a very large door or gate like the kind one might find in a castel. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
DreamWarrior Perhaps you could include a link to a photo or photos. It would be interesting to see this lock. What condition is it in? How did you obtain it? Are there any symbols on it anywhere? If so, can you tell what country they may represent?
